You are going to love these gluten free protein bites! Finding healthy snacks for two teenagers can be a bit of a challenge. Add in the fact that one of them is gluten intolerant and it becomes even more of a challenge. I want the kids to enjoy the snacks I make but I want them to be healthy too. I try really hard to limit the amount of junk food they eat. If you have teenagers, you know that isn’t easy. They stop for fast food after a game with the team.  They spend the night at friends’ homes and have their own money to buy snacks. At this point in their lives, I realize that I can only control what I offer them to eat at home.

Because my son is active, he tends to eat snacks that are higher in protein.  When he grabs snacks at the store, he goes for protein bites, protein bars and protein shakes.  Protein provides the body with essential amino acids. Amino acids are important cell building blocks that help build healthy muscles, repair tissue faster and support a healthy immune system.  Protein also helps you stay full longer, which can help those of us that are watching our weight.

Gluten free protein bites with Wholesome Cravings

I don’t always love all the ingredients in the store bought protein products so I decided that it was time I learned to make my own. I started with a base of Wholesome Cravings Pumpkin spice Protein Baking Mix. These baking mixes are 100% whole grain and gluten-free.  They use only high-quality ingredients without preservatives or artificial ingredients. They are 100% all natural so I trust them as part of our diet. Plus, they are also a Vermont company and I love supporting local businesses.

Gluten free protein bites with Wholesome Cravings

The Pumpkin Spice Protein Baking Mix contains pea protein and gluten-free as well as flax seeds and raisins.  You can experiment with adding in a variety of chopped nuts and seeds to find the combination that works best for your family.  Wholesome Cravings also offers Decadent Chocolate Chip, Banana Chocolate Chip and Apple Ginger Baking Mixes. They can be prepared as muffins, bars or follow my recipe above and make your own gluten-free protein bites.

These products are currently unavailable and it appears the website is no longer operational. But, I would encourage you to try this with another gluten free protein baking mix like FlapJacked which is also gluten free. Or try the Paleo energy bites by Larabar.
